People have always been attracted to symmetry. Why? 
Just look around! Our world, our whole universe itself, is filled with symmetry.
                          
Living and non-living things are built on symmetry: flowers and insects, crystals and snowflakes, animals and of course humans themselves have obvious symmetries. Since the beginning of time, man has tried to understand the world and has been fascinated with the harmony and balance of nature.
                    
Symmetry makes the world pleasing - and so, as we will see on our travels - people have used the beauty of balanced patterns in works of art in all cultures and from all times.
